A Subaru car that is about to go on sale in the UK has won an award for its safety features, which may encourage car insurance customers to check out the car.

The Subaru Forester was handed the 'top pick' award from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety in the US and will be available to buy in the UK in April.

It scored the highest points during crash tests, registering the best results in tests on the front, rear and sides and offered superior crash protection as well as electronic stability control.

Lawrence Good, managing director of Subaru UK, said: "The tests by the Insurance Institute are respected worldwide and it is also worth noting that both the US and UK Foresters are both Japanese-built and share the same basic potential life-saving features."

Subaru is part of the Fuji Heavy Industries Group in Japan and has pioneered various automotive technology such as ABS.ADNFCR-1161-ID-18566574-ADNFCR
