Home » Bulk-buying will cause shortages, say petrol retailers
The availability of petrol for motorists will only dwindle if motorists start to bulk-buy fuel during the possible shut-down of the Grangemouth refinery, according to the RMI Petrol Retailers' Association (PRA).
Any fuel shortage could affect all motorists including buyers of car, van or commercial van insurance.
Ray Holloway, director of the PRA, said: "Fuel availability for motorists outside Scotland will not be affected by the potential shutdown and the effect on supply in Scotland will be limited."
Mr Holloway tried to reassure motorists saying that "it is still not certain" that the refinery will shut and fuel suppliers have made contingency plans for such circumstances.
Grangemouth is one of the UK's biggest refineries and processes 210,000 barrels of oil a day, according to the BBC.
Staff are reportedly disputing the management's intention to replace the final salary pension scheme with a different system.
